1559 Zamora - Redención de censo al quitar Siglo XVI - 1559

Closed document in Zamora on May 27, 1559, at the beginning of Philip II's reign. It is a lengthy civil case file, entire and perfectly preserved, containing a letter of payment and redemption of a census of 560 maravedís, granted by Antonio de Ocampo (heir of Juan Lorenzo de Tábara) in favor of Gonzalo Brochero, thereby freeing the place of Hermillo from said mortgage lien. The manuscript is drafted in a superb and elegant procedural hand traced by the scribe Francisco Ribar, visually standing out for the enormous and exceptional flourishes in the form of interlaced spirals that decorate its margins. The document culminates on its last page with a gigantic and intricate notarial sign in ink that served as an official guarantee seal. Its state of conservation is outstanding, keeping the rag paper firm and undamaged after more than 460 years, with the ink in a deep sepia tone and preserving its valuable original archival cover that summarizes the case, which makes it a museum-quality piece with enormous visual impact, ideal for major collectors and investors in high-era documents.
