"904" is a historic name for a La Rioja Alta S.A. label. It was previously labeled as "Reserva 904," even though the wine was produced as a Gran Reserva. In fact, the 1964 vintage of the 904 is documented as a Gran Reserva. Winery: La Rioja Alta, S.A. — one of Spain's most prestigious wineries, founded in 1890 and located in Haro, La Rioja (Spain). It is renowned for its traditional Gran Reserva wines, which undergo long periods of aging in both barrel and bottle before release. Aging: 6 years in American oak barrels (with manual racking). Initial fermentation and stabilization in large wooden vats. 3–4 years in the bottle before commercial release. In total: over 9–10 years before reaching the market. Wines with such prolonged aging should not be compared to modern wines. This bottle is intended for collectors or palates accustomed to older vintage wines.
