Antique Diamond Star With 7.18 ct Old European Cut Diamonds as Scarf

One of the most popular jewellery motifs of the 19th century was the diamond-studded star - and not without reason. On the one hand, these pieces of jewellery illustrate the enthusiasm for the Orient of those years, with its fondness for foreign cultures. On the other hand, the enthusiasm for star motifs is owed to the Empress of Austria, who introduced the motif of diamond stars to Viennese society and made them immortal classics of jewellery history to this day. Probably the most famous portrait of Sisi, painted by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, shows the young empress with a multitude of radiant diamond stars in her flowing dark hair, which were specially made for her by the Viennese court jeweller A.E. Köchert. After this portrait became known, there was no stopping the ladies of Viennese society. Every woman who could afford it wanted to be in possession of at least one precious star with diamonds. Such a piece from the end of the 19th century we have here before us. It is a five-pointed star set with a total of 66 old European cut diamonds with a total weight of about 7.18 carats. Forged from yellow gold, the center of the star is effectively blackened, which beautifully accentuates the large old European cuts with their individual shapes. Smaller diamonds describe the star shape as a surrounding band. During the graduated 20th century, the star, which was probably once designed as a brooch, was fitted with a large clip, so that today it can be used as a scarf holder or scarf clip. This high quality and elegant piece of jewellery came to us from Wiesbaden. It comes with a detailed certificate from the German Association for Gemstone Evaluation Idar-Oberstein.
