Please refer to the original photographs to verify the artwork’s real condition.” Builder series/ Baptiste Laurent's Builder series is associated with the work of the artisan mason, the artisan ceramist, for a systematic composition of tableaux. Largely inspired by Arab-Andalusian ceramics, the geometric work fascinates with its bold juxtaposition of pattern and color. The motif as a pattern combines multicolored lozenges, bewitching kaleidoscopic patterns. Interior scenes glimpsed between diagonal black and white lines create a surprising depth. Between kinetic effects and intriguing perspectives, Builder by Baptiste Laurent transports us into a dreamlike universe that blends the aesthetics of Berber hangings with Matisse balconies and Hokusai engravings. The floor, with its green and yellow tiles, guides our gaze towards the horizon, reinforcing an intriguing perspective. A transparent sphere rests in the center, reflecting delicate red and blue reflections, adding a futuristic, surreal dimension. The open door reveals a peaceful landscape, contrasting with the vibrant interior and serene exterior. With its sophisticated play on symmetry and optical illusion, this work challenges our perception of space and reality. Bio of the artist/ Baptiste Laurent (1980, Nantes) is a visual artist who lives and works in Madrid and Paris. He has exhibited at various artistic and cultural institutions, including the Institut français de Madrid, Le Palais de Tokyo, Galeria La Caja, Esquina Nua, Espacio Seara, Gazzambo Gallery, Alliance française, Museo Nacional de Antropología, Galeria FL. His traditional medium is painting, but he also works in sculpture and develops projects with a strong literary, social and anthropological component. In his latest publications and exhibitions, “Conversaciones y Puñetazos”, “Mauvaises Tournures”, “Bajo el Mismo Mar” and “Exit”, he has repeatedly experimented with collaborative creative work with other visual artists and literary authors. As an anti-academic and eclectic artist, he likes to syncretise pictorial styles, oscillating between neo-figurative narrative, graphic painting and expressionist abstraction. Founder of the 'Latolier' shared studio in Madrid’s Usera district, he leads a dynamic community of Spanish and international visual artists.
