First edition of this rare collection bringing together the ancient travel accounts of Benjamin of Tudela, Jean de Plan-Carpin, Vincent de Beauvais, Guillaume de Rubrouck, Marco Polo, Jean de Mandeville, and others, covering Asia and Persia. (Chadenat, no. 1548; Cordier, Sinica, col. 1941–1942.) 5 fold-out maps and 8 large copperplate engravings in the text. Bos du Thil stamp in red ink on the title page. A copy belonging to the Toulouse explorer Gaston de Roquemaurel (1804–1878), with his signature on the title page: this naval officer notably served as Dumont D’Urville’s first officer during the Astrolabe’s second circumnavigation (1837–1840). 4 loosely bound leaves in the *Traité des Tartares*. Binding slightly worn with small losses and scuffs.
