Ancient manuscript Qur'an – 2 single sheets, recto-verso – 4 written pages Originating from a Qur'an on detached leaves. 17 cm × 12 cm. Probable period: second half of the 17th century, 1st half of the 19th century. Circa 1750–1850.. 2 single sheets manuscript recto-verso, i.e., four written pages, originating from the same ancient Arabic Qur'anic manuscript preserved as detached leaves. The set comes from a part of a Qur’an (juzʾ) and comprises several identifiable surahs. Among the passages formally recognized on the leaves are notably Surah al-Mulk (الملك, Surah 67) as well as the final surahs of the Qur’an, including al-Ikhlāṣ (الإخلاص, 112), al-Falaq (الفلق, 113) and al-Nās (الناس, 114). The Qur’anic text is copied in Arabic in large, regular, highly legible calligraphy in black ink, richly vocalized and punctuated with auxiliary signs. The titles and indications relating to the surahs are rubricated in red-orange ink, as are certain reading and separation marks. The written surface is delimited by a polychrome manuscript frame with multiple lines, mainly red-orange and black, occasionally with a blue-green line. The surah changes are particularly decorative, their title, traditional classification and number of verses may be inscribed in red before the basmala, Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Provenance of the sheets This leaf originates from a set of pencil-written leaves. The leaves were kept in a binder-type cover added after the leaves, with an old catalog card in Arabic that documents identification and chronological attribution. It bears in particular: اسم الكتاب : جزء من القرآن الكريم Ism al-kitāb: Juzʾ min al-Qurʾān al-Karīm Book name: a part of the Noble Qur’an. The field reserved for the scribe’s name (اسم الكاتب) is not filled. The card then states: تاريخ الكتابة : القرن العاشر الهجري Tārīkh al-kitāba: al-qarn al-ʿāshir al-hijrī Date of copying: 10th century AH. 2 single sheets recto-verso originating from an Arabic Qur’anic manuscript. Manuscript writing, black ink with rubrication in red-orange. Partial description of the 2 sheets. Religious Islamic text devoted to the merits of reciting several Qur’anic surahs, notably al-Shams (The Sun), al-Layl (The Night) and al-Fajr (The Dawn). The manuscript reports various traditions attributed to the Prophet and describes the spiritual rewards promised to the believer: pardon, divine protection, merit of good deeds and reward in the hereafter. 2 single sheets recto-verso, 4 written pages, 17 cm × 12 cm per single sheet. Rag paper (laid paper) with a smooth finish. * Conservation tips, as very fragile. Keep flat No direct light Stable humidity: 50–55% Temperature ~ 18–21°C Never moisten → immediate loss Very rare.
