Elegant "Retro" Ring With Pearl & Diamonds in Gold, ca. 1950

This phenomenon can also be seen in the development of Art Deco. While cool platinum undisputedly dominated the jewellery world in the 1920s and early '30s, coloured gold experienced an astonishing comeback starting in 1935. In the course of the so-called "Retro Jewellery", the once delicate shapes also became significantly more voluminous and gave jewellery an expressive presence that remained current until the post-war period.
