FACES OF THE PAST — Photos from the Larousse archives Paris, Librairie Larousse, 1976. Square quarto, paperback, cover illustrated with a vintage photograph, 24 pages, numerous sepia-toned photographic reproductions. The BnF confirms the 1976 Larousse edition. A charming little photo album compiled from the Larousse pictorial archives, featuring portraits and historical scenes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its appeal lies primarily in the selection of photographs and their photographers: notably featuring Lucienne Bréval photographed by Boissonnas, Charles Garnier by Adam-Salomon, Coquelin the Elder in the role of Cyrano by Marinet, and Alfred Dreyfus during the first session of the Rennes court-martial in 1899. Some images from the book are now used as reference materials; this is particularly true of a portrait by Adam-Salomon from the Larousse archives. In good overall condition, with a clean interior; the cover is slightly soiled and rubbed, with small marks, creases, and very slight wear on the corners and lower edge. Nothing major, but this is not a copy in mint condition.
