Filiberto Petiti Turin, 1845 – Rome, 1924 Eight sketches of different subjects, circa 1880–1920. Collection composed of eight original studies executed in pencil, graphite and ink on paper, presented together in a single frame. The sheets depict different subjects: wooded landscapes and architectural views, a boat, male figures, a knight seen from behind, a cat, and a study of costume. Some of the sketches bear the artist’s signature. The dimensions vary from about 5.5 × 3 cm for the smallest sheet, to about 10 × 10 cm for the largest. The set documents Filiberto Petiti’s working method and his attention to direct observation of landscape, figures, and animals. The immediate, non-academic character of the sheets returns to their original function as notes, studies, and visual annotations created by the artist. Filiberto Petiti was an Italian painter and draftsman active in Turin, Florence, and Rome. His production is mainly linked to landscape painting and to the Italian artistic milieu of the second half of the nineteenth century. Provenance: Heirs of Petiti. Finarte, Rome, auction “Figurative Art between the 19th and 20th Century,” June 18, 2026, lot 1130. The lot was presented by Finarte with an assessed value of 100–300 euros and was awarded at 140 euros, buyer’s premium included. Conditions: The sheets show yellowing and paper oxidation, foxing, stains, slight abrasions and irregularities compatible with the age and nature of studio studies. Some sheets show a more marked patina than others. The work is kept under glass in a single frame. The photographs are an integral part of the condition description. Sold with the frame currently visible in the images. It will be packed with special care, separately protecting glass, frame, and corners, and shipped with tracking and insurance.
