[First Edition] Ciba Collection of Medical Illustrations...

I was told once that the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company commissioned these atlas-like publications and used to distribute them to newly graduated doctors. Whether they were gifted or purchased, I take it that this no longer goes on. These detailed paintings of particular system of the human body are both instructive and awe-inspiring--medical illustration as art, to be sure. I am pleased to be able to offer: "Volume I- A Compilation of Paintings on the Normal and Pathologic Anatomy of the Nervous System, with a Supplement on the Hypothalamus" by Frank H. Netter, M.D., issued as part of the Ciba Collection of Medical Illustrations. This book contains 104 full-color, full-page plates, each with a brief explanation of what it shows, and another 18 similar plates as part of the Hypothalamus suppplement. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The clear plastic dust jacket has some scuffings to its finish but nothing serious. The hard covers are pristine, clean and unbumped. The title panel on the front cover of the book is skewed to one side but I suspect that this was a printing issue. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are bright and clean throughout, without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
