Folky Ontario Cloak Cupboard

Canadian. An Ontario Germanic wardrobe found near Chesley, Bruce County, in original folky paint with two shelves on each side of the interior, while the main storage area has 30 carved pine cloak hooks on five swivel arms mounted above. The dramatic two-tone paint of brown and yellow emphasizes the architectural qualities, with the frieze having carved rosettes and two arched panels while the doors have stylized tulip motifs on the lower panels. Robust moldings surround the doors and panels, with the case resting on a shaped base. Illustrated in "Canadian Country Furniture" by Michael Bird, page 250. Ontario. C. 1875. Unmarked.
