Frame (2)- Gilded frames in Mecca and a mercury mirror

Pair of carved and gilded wood mirrors and frames from the 18th century, with mercury gilding (mecca). Important pair of Baroque-style mirrors, in carved and sculpted wood and finely mercury-gilded, characterized by a rich ornamental display with botanical motifs, volutes, leaves, and irregular-shaped cartouches. The structure features lively, highly plastic carving, with an asymmetric arrangement and refined rocaille elements, particularly evident in the crest and in the lateral and lower motifs. The mercury gilding, today magnificently patinated and enriched by widespread abrasions and losses of the gilded surface, reveals the underlying preparation in several places, giving the whole a notable aesthetic quality and an authentic antique character. The mirror plates preserve antique mercury-backed panes, with significant oxidation and a characteristic marbling of the reflective surface, elements that contribute to the strong antiquarian value of the ensemble. The back, made of shaped wood, preserves the traditional constructive framework and ancient mounting elements. Era: 18th century, with possible dating to the second half of the eighteenth century, to be verified by specialists. Origin: Italian production. Technique: carved and sculpted wood, mercury gilding. Condition: good for age, with evident signs of time, craquelure, abrasions, losses and wear to the gilding, coherent with an antique artifact. Object of particular interest for collectors, high-end interior decoration and historic interiors, where size, quality of the carving and the original patina can make a strong scenographic presence.
