London (1912), featuring seashell, scroll, and cross hatched decoration to the rim, with a central monogram, over four scrolled feet, with central CWS monogram for Clara Wales Stout. 1 3/4 x 6 3/4 in. 9.3 troy oz. Private Collection of a Lady, Wilson, North Carolina Clara Wales Stout (American, born circa 1863) was a philanthropist and wife of prominent businessman Frank Deming Stout of Dubuque, Iowa. Clara and her husband were active benefactors of cultural and civic institutions; in 1901, they donated land in downtown Dubuque for the construction of what became the Carnegie-Stout Free Library. Clara was also a noted collector of finely bound books and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Good estate condition.
