Henri Goetz (1909-1989) - Composition sur fond jaune

Henri GOETZ (1909–1989) Abstract composition Pastel gras on paper (FRAME DIMENSIONS 80 x 93 cm) Original work of high quality, this oil pastel testifies with force to the technical mastery and the plastic sensibility of Henri Goetz, a major figure of lyrical abstraction and inventor of carborundum engraving. The composition, at once free and structured, reveals a subtle balance between the energy of gesture and the rigor of construction. The flat areas of color, the rubbings and the incisive lines characteristic of oil pastel confer on the work a vibrant depth, almost mineral, where matter seems to be animated by internal tensions. The palette, rich and nuanced, captures light and creates a visually striking dynamic. This work fully aligns with the research pursued by Henri Goetz around matter, rhythm and space, in the lineage of post-war abstraction. One finds there that rare ability to make spontaneity and control dialogue, giving rise to an image that is at once powerful and poetic. The pastel is presented in an exceptional carved wooden frame, antique, of great finesse in execution. Its carved décor brings nobility and presence to the whole, underscoring the strength of the work without ever dominating it. This frame, chosen with discernment, gives the piece a precious and timeless character, ideal for a demanding collection or a museum presentation. Authentic and expressive, this oil pastel by Henri Goetz constitutes a rare opportunity to acquire an intimate and refined piece by a pivotal artist on the French abstract scene of the 20th century.
