Irving Penn (1917–1999) - Corset, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, New York, 1994

A female bust in a corset. Imagined by the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld for the house of Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld was the artistic director of Chanel from 1983 up to his death in 2019. During these 36 years, he deeply reinvented the codes of the brand created by Coco Chanel, propelling the fashion house to the rank of global luxury leader and transforming the logo with the two interlaced "C" into an essential pop emblem, reproduced on bags, jewelry and ready-to-wear. Black and white prepress print on satin RC photo paper. Medium resolution, archive digital print. Later print. Format: 25.8 x 20.9 cm with margins. In very good overall condition. Photo credit printed in the lower margin. Label and annotations on the back. Presented on a 30 x 24 cm universal master card. Irving Penn (1917–2009) was an American photographer who revolutionized the visual culture of the 20th century through his work in fashion, portraiture and still life. Mostly known for his decades-long collaboration with the magazine Vogue, Penn eliminated the cluttered backgrounds characteristic of early fashion photography, favoring neutral and clean backgrounds as well as natural light to focus entirely on the sculptural forms and the elegance of his subjects.
