Johan Samiel Roth (German School, 18th Century), Portrait of Johanna Helena von Berckheim, Dated "1738" Depicted half-length with powdered curled hair in a fine dress festooned with flowers and holding a gold trinket box against a landscape with trees and sky. Oil on canvas laid down to burlap; inscribed on burlap, "Johana Helena/ von/ Berckbeim Gebohrne/ ERbrechtin von Durckheim/ Wittib/ Johan Samiel Roth/ penxit 1738/ [?]27 Marky". Dimensions: 30 1/2 in. x 24 1/2 in.; 32 1/4 in. x 26 1/4 in. (framed) Condition Scattered small losses to paint throughout, with some areas with later inpainting as visible under UV light. Additional inpainting visible on woman's forehead and to flowers in her hair. Giltwood frame with some losses to decoration with other areas refreshed.
