John Gould (1804–1881) - Lesser Melampitta / Melampitta Lugubris

"Melampitta Lugubris" features a beautifully detailed natural history study showing a pair of dark-plumaged birds with striking bright red eyes situated within a meticulously rendered grassy and moss-covered landscape. The composition captures one bird standing prominently on the mossy ground while its companion perches closely behind, emphasizing their distinctive form and texture within an atmospheric, native environment.
