Jules Verne / Férat

Exciting illustrated edition in a rare obus-binding that gathers three Jules Verne tales and showcases the author’s narrative and geographic diversity while embodying his taste for exploration, technology, and human tensions - A Floating City describes the crossing of the Atlantic aboard the gigantic steamship Great Eastern, a true floating microcosm where romantic intrigues, technical observations and reflections on maritime modernity are woven together, in an atmosphere mixing luxury, promiscuity and mechanical vertigo - The Blockade Runners, shorter and more dramatic, features a young American engaged in the Civil War, who tries to break through the naval blockade to join his beloved, in a breathless tale where patriotism, love and audacity combine - Finally, Adventures of Three Russians and Three English in South Africa relates a geodetic triangulation scientific mission carried out in hostile territories, where political rivalries between the two nations are compounded by climatic, zoological and human challenges, revealing the tensions between science, imperialism and solidarity - Together, these three texts offer a panorama of Verne’s style — between documentary precision, Romantic sweep and fascination with moving worlds — and attest to his encyclopedic and humanitarian ambition across continents, conflicts and innovations of the 19th century - Jules Verne / Férat, Pannemaker and Hildibrand - A Floating City / The Blockade Runners / Adventures of 3 Russians and 3 English - 1873 - J.
