Large Vintage Pendant/Brooch With Yellow Sapphires & Diamonds, c. 2000

Golden, like the light of the sun, this large piece of jewellery shines and glows. It gathers sparkling diamonds and precious yellow sapphires in high-carat yellow gold. Set close together, the gemstones provide a luminous backdrop for the highlight of the design: a large, spectacular honey-yellow sapphire in the center. The central stone is a precious find. Measuring 28.00 ct, the stone displays quite a wonderful, uniform colour and is almost completely eye-clean. Light plays vividly within its body, causing the countless facets to glow from within. Together with the fire of the diamonds, the result is a celebration of sunlight. The large sapphire is very clear. Only a few, very fine inclusions, mainly semi-transparent liquid films under the table testify to the natural formation of the stone deep inside the earth. They can be glimpsed as wandering veils when looking into the stone with concentration. The piece of jewellery is handmade and of high quality in execution. The goldwork is heavy and massive, and we were particularly impressed by the perfect choice of gemstones. Indeed, the tone of the gold and the colour of the 43 other, smaller sapphires are quite magnificently matched to the colour of the central sapphire. It's hard to remember the effort it must have taken to select just these gemstones out of thousands to create the uniform impression. The design of the jewellery is reminiscent of Indian turban ornaments or even jewels of the Baroque period, which were worn on the hat: so the large piece of jewellery, which can be worn as a brooch, but also as a pendant, offers many possibilities to carry it out. We discovered it in Hamburg.
