Provenance information: Object Registration ID: 723 The current owner purchased this object from a reputable Dutch numismatic auction house in Schiedam, the Netherlands. Due to privacy regulations, the name of the previous owner could not be disclosed. No further information concerning the earlier ownership history of the object was available from the previous owner. Background Information: This bronze statuette depicts a stylized bull, one of the most enduring and significant animal representations produced by the bronze-working cultures of ancient Luristan. Dating to approximately 1800–1600 B.C., such figures reflect the sophisticated artistic traditions that flourished during the Middle Bronze Age. The bull occupied a central place in the religious and symbolic world of the peoples of Luristan. It represented strength, fertility, prosperity, and protective power, and was closely associated with livestock, which formed the economic foundation of daily life.
