Modern Gold & Silver Ring with Green-Blue Tourmaline, Berlin c. 1995

Tourmaline is a gemstone that is particularly characterized by its wide variety of colors. From blue to yellow, pink and green, it comes in almost every color. It owes its name to the Sinhalese word turmali, which means "stone with mixed colors". The tourmaline in this handcrafted piece of jewellery from a Berlin goldsmith is set in a strong shell of high-carat gold and becomes a ring through a powerful rail of bright silver. The high-quality tourmaline is cut into a cabochon and weighs around seven carats. Thanks to the smooth cut, the stone's color is particularly soft and deep, almost like a calm glow from within. It shimmers powerfully and elegantly in a shade between green and blue, reminiscent of deep forest light or shady waters. The clear, minimalist shape of the setting emphasizes the presence of the stone and deliberately allows it to take center stage. We can date the ring to the 1990s; it came to us from Berlin-Dahlem.
