Monumental Antique Indian Carpet, circa 1900 - 18 ft 6 in x 10 ft

Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Monumental Antique Indian Carpet, circa 1900 Size: 18 ft 6 in x 10 ft 10 in (5.64 m x 3.3 m) Provenance: From a distinguished collector A monumental Indian carpet distinguished by its impressive architectural scale and softly distressed antique surface. At more than eighteen feet in length, it was conceived for a grand reception room, gallery or other substantial interior. Indian carpet workshops drew upon Persian court design while developing their own approaches to floral drawing, scale and color. The softened surface of the present carpet gives its ornament an atmospheric quality especially suited to interiors where a newly woven carpet would appear too formal. Its unusually long proportions make it a practical and visually impressive furnishing for a large dining room, library or open-plan residence.
