Born in 1958 in Bên Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is distinguished by a singular fusion between Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he was fascinated by the rural architecture of his surroundings, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, the shadows cast by the water palms — all elements that would become the basis of his visual language. Having always lived in his homeland, Nguyen Robert developed, over the decades, a deeply contemporary, modern, and resolutely architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms and geometric abstraction, while retaining a poetic sensibility intrinsic to Vietnamese culture. His dual heritage, Franco-Vietnamese, enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigour of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul injects softness, spirituality and fluidity into his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets the timeless, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual power. Known for his ability to transform daily life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the singular voices of contemporary painting in the Mekong Delta.
