Only 1959 g in the World-Oriented Rumuruti Chondrite R3-6

Fantastic specimen of a rocky meteorite, of the scarce Rumuruti-type chondrite Rumuruti found in the Sahara Desert, and analyzed and recently classified under the official name NWA 13683. It is a complete, very aesthetic specimen, with a nicely oriented shape, that speaks to us about the way it traversed the atmosphere. It has a cut and polished section to view its interior, in which we can appreciate some small-sized chondrules, characteristic of this type of meteorites. The chondrules in the form of small circles represent each of the tiny grains of matter that formed the presolar cloud, before the formation of the planets and the solar system as we know it today. That is why chondrites like this contain the oldest materials we can find in the solar system, with an age estimated at more than 4.55 billion years. As for the meteorites of type R, they owe their name to the first specimen of this type that was seen to fall in the town of Rumuruti (Kenya) in 1934. They form a rare group of chondrites, which although share many features with ordinary chondrites such as similar chondrules, few refractory inclusions or similar chemical composition, they differ from them in that they show a higher proportion of fine-grain matrix, clasts of various lithologies of the parent body and contain little iron in the form of metallic particles; almost all the metal they contain is oxidized or in the form of sulfides. An excellent opportunity to add this marvel of the universe to your collection.
