Philips - CD-100 - CD player

The Philips CD100, together with Sony's CDP101, was the world's first CD player in 1982. The aim of the CD was to replace the old-fashioned gramophone record. Sony and Philips jointly developed the CD standard. However, Sony was allowed to bring its CDP101 to market a fraction earlier. The CD player can play optical discs with a 12 cm diameter and a hub diameter exactly the size of a dime. The dime was meant to give the whole CD development a Dutch twist. The quality on the discs is two channels at 16-bit data width with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz. Although these were the first CD players, they were not the first optical devices. That honor goes to Philips VLP600 and VLP700 LaserVision video disc players. In those, both sound and image were still recorded entirely analog on the disc. In later models, the digital audio track was implemented. To deliver this product properly, it is carefully packed in very strong boxes, wrapped in bubble wrap with plenty of padding. We primarily use plastic as padding, but if another material is desired, please contact us. The package is shipped insured to protect both the buyer and the seller.
