Precious Ring With Blue Zircon & Diamonds in White Gold, Germany c. 1965

The value of rare gemstones depends on many different factors. The intensity of a gemstone's colour, its purity, its cut and, in some cases, the region of the world in which it was found are decisive factors. In all cases, however, the size, i.e. the weight of a stone on the carat scale, also plays a decisive role in whether it is traded at a low or high price. In the case of the natural precious zircon from Cambodia that we have before us here, a number of factors come together to make the stone a gem that you don't see every day. The colour of the precious zircon is electrifying blue and its purity is excellent. But what is most surprising about a gemstone of this type is its size! We regularly find zircons weighing less than four carats from time to time on our forays through the antique markets of England, although not often - because natural blue zircons have always been rare and precious. The stone we encounter in this elegant vintage ring from the 1960s weighs in at an impressive 8.42 ct. An entourage of 24 first-class baguette cut diamonds surrounds it like a halo and enhances its mesmerizing blue. The Idar-Oberstein gemstone experts we have consulted here have calculated an additional 1.32 ct weight for the fine diamonds surrounding it. Even a close look through a magnifying glass reveals no inclusions. We were able to discover the goldsmith's work in Hamburg and were immediately impressed by the quality of the gemstones set into it. The ring can be resized and comes with an external appraisal.
