Ralf Altrieth - Etonnement éternel - XXXL

Through acrylic, decals and transfers of matter, Ralf Altrieth brings to life a gallery of characters who seem to mingle, respond to each other or simply evolve side by side, like in a world whose rules belong only to them. The bold colors and the layers of material give the surface great richness. The colored lines structure the shapes while the flats, traces and transfers reveal different strata of painting. The whole retains a very direct spontaneity, but also a true sense of rhythm and composition. Between free figuration, instinctive drawing and graphic poetry, the work does not seek to tell a specific story. It opens rather a space where the imagination can circulate freely. By its energy, its colors and its resolutely singular character, it provides an immediate presence to the space. It first attracts with its expressiveness, then holds the eye with the multitude of details that gradually reveal themselves. From the crucible of improvisation, he conjures a pristine world made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses." — Dr Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director "His gestural writing and color describe a world open to new voices and experiments never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression of the contemporary scene." — Laurent Puech, art historian and curator MARGES: The indicated dimensions correspond to the work mounted on a stretcher.
