Property from the Estate of Sally Lloyd Steedman, Hilton Head Island, SC Description: Rare Nancy Youngblood & Russell Sanchez Collaboration (Santa Clara, b. 1955 / San Ildefonso, b. 1963) Black and Sienna Melon Jar, with 32 ribs and two strands of heishi, carved lizard design at shoulder with turquoise eye, cosigned on the base. " Nancy Youngblood is focused on the artistry of her pottery and the traditions of Santa Clara Pueblo and her family. Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone polished, and native-fired. She is best known for her melon ribbed vessels that explore a variety of different styles and forms. Nancy's pottery can be found in museums worldwide. She has also been featured in numerous books, including "Crafted to Perfection," "Born of Fire," and "The Art of Clay." She won "Best of Pottery" at the 2015 Santa Fe Indian Market for a large jar with melon ribs and a horse design. In 2018, she won "Best of Pottery" at Santa Fe Indian Market for a swirl water jar. Russell Sanchez is known as one of the master innovators in Pueblo pottery. Each piece is hand-coiled, stone polished, etched, inlaid, designed, and fired with traditional Native American pottery methods. Russell learned to make pottery from his great-aunt, noted potter and pottery matriarch Rose Gonzales. He has received numerous awards and recognition. In 2011, Russell was awarded the 'Tony Da Award' for Pottery in Santa Fe. In 2019, he won "Best of Pottery" at Santa Fe Indian Market. He was involved in a major exhibition of historic San Ildefonso pottery at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, NM in 2019."Measurements: Height: 5 1/2 in. x Width: 7 1/2 in Condition: Good condition, small scratch on lower jaw.
