Libyan Desert Glass is a rare natural silica formation formed about 29 million years ago in the Sahara, in the region known as the Great Sand Sea, between Egypt and Libya. This extraordinary material originated when desert quartz sand was subjected to extremely high temperatures, probably following a very high-energy cosmic event, melting and rapidly solidifying into natural glass.
