SMEDT (Marc de) & PIQUEMAL (Michel). — Erotica of the Ea - Lot 277

SMEDT (Marc de) & PIQUEMAL (Michel). — Erotica of the East. Paris, Albin Michel, 1998. Narrow 8vo, black illustrated paperback from the publisher, red endpapers, abundant color illustrations. First edition of this anthology of Eastern erotic texts, selected and presented by Marc de Smedt and Michel Piquemal. A collection devoted to the various traditions of Eastern erotic literature and art, bringing together poems, tales, and stories from Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Persian, and Arabic cultures, among others. The book is particularly captivating for its illustrations: numerous full-page color reproductions of erotic Japanese prints (shunga), Indian and Persian miniatures, and other ancient depictions of love and sexuality in the East. The texts accompany the images and include, in particular, ancient Japanese poetry as well as adaptations of Arabic tales. A beautifully produced volume, printed entirely on black or colored backgrounds. ISBN 2-226-09058-4. Legal deposit: first half of 1998. A good copy. Interior is fresh; the hardcover shows some scuffing, scratches, and minor signs of wear, mainly on the covers and headbands.
