Synchronome, London – a rare and historically important ultra-precision Type B astronomical regulator clock with inertia-bar seconds switch, No. 4208. Signed 10” silvered dial with centre minutes, subsidiary seconds and Roman numeral 24 hour dial, in addition to the standard half-minute electrical impulses, the clock is configured to provide both parallel and series seconds impulses, within a glazed oak case measuring 55.5 inches high and 14.5 inches wide (complete with pendulum and bob) Provenance and Historical Significance: **Delivered to Jodrell Bank Observatory on New Year's Eve, 31 December 1951 **Clock No. 4208 was reportedly utilised as a scientific instrument in connection with sidereal time, radio astronomy telemetry and celestial tracking at Jodrell Bank Observatory during the 1950s, under the direction of Sir Bernard Lovell ** James Nye, Secretary of the EHG, has consulted his records, and clock 4208, identified as 4208B – indicating a type B clock, was entered as an order into a register of astronomical regulators at Synchronome on 18 May 1951. The client was noted as ‘University of Manchester, Department of Physics, Holmes Chapel, Crewe’
