Val Saint Lambert - Drinking service (12) - Lothaire...

Val Saint Lambert – Set of 12 mouth-blown engraved "Lothaire" water goblets – Belgium – ca.1900 Elegant set of twelve antique mouth-blown drinking glasses by Val Saint Lambert, Belgium, dating from the late nineteenth century. These glasses belong to the celebrated "Lothaire" table service, one of the earliest engraved stemware services produced by the renowned Belgian crystal manufacturer. The graceful rounded bowl stands on a refined cylindrical stem with applied knop, entirely made by hand. Every glass has been individually wheel-engraved with delicate looping garlands, intertwined scrolls and fine engraved bands, creating a light and sophisticated decoration that perfectly reflects the refined taste of the Belle Époque. Because each glass was individually mouth-blown, slight differences in height, diameter and weight are completely normal and underline the authentic handcrafted production. Although today these glasses are perfectly suited as elegant wine goblets, they were originally designed as water glasses. During the nineteenth century wine glasses were considerably smaller, while these larger goblets formed part of the formal table setting for serving water. The "Lothaire" service appears in the earliest Val Saint Lambert catalogues around 1900 and is considered one of the house's classic engraved table services. A beautiful set for collectors of antique Belgian glass or for creating an elegant historic dining table, equally at home in both classic and contemporary interiors. Condition Very good antique condition. Minor traces of age and use, small manufacturing variations, occasional tiny air bubbles and light wear consistent with handmade nineteenth-century glass.
