VIAU (Théophile de). *Le Parnasse satyrique*. S.I. [Leiden], - Lot 173

VIAU (Théophile de). *Le Parnasse satyrique*. S.I. [Leiden], 1660. In-12, red morocco, triple fillet, decorated spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Chambolle-Duru). A fine edition printed in Leiden by Franciscus Hackius. A reprint of the collection of licentious and satirical poems attributed largely to Théophile de Viau and other 17th-century poets. First published in 1622, it caused a huge scandal and led to Théophile’s death sentence following a famous trial and, ultimately, his banishment.
