Vintage Gold Pendant with Onyx Cameo & Pearls, Germany c. 1960

This pendant presents a gem carving in black and white hardstone and transports the bourgeoisie's long passion for collecting stone carvings into the 20th century. It depicts the portrait of a young lady. The depiction stands out in fine white against the black background and represents the goddess Hera, who can be recognized by her headdress and antique robe. Her gaze is directed to the right and her hair is hidden under a scarf in large curls at the back of her head. The cut appears powerful and routine. The hand-cut cameo is set in solid yellow gold and framed by 29 fine cultured pearls. The stone cut was certainly created in I-Dar-Oberstein, which has always been the center for high-quality stone cutting in Europe. The setting is certainly also from Germany. We date the piece of jewelry to around 1960 and it is in very good condition.
