Waterloo County Schrank

Canadian. A schrank from Waterloo County in original grain paint with a fluted cornice frieze, along with carved woven ribbon detail on the upper rail and a shaped upper panel in the doors suggesting an Alsatian influence. With classic rat-tail hinges typical of other schranks from the region and a simple molded bracket base. A cupboard with similar treatment to the cornice and upper rail and shaped upper door panels is illustrated in "Canadian County Furniture" by Michael Bird, plate 409, pg 252. Unmarked.
